 Most of our Highlands Ranch dental patients are choosing white composite fillings.  You do have a choice of materials and composite (white fillings) is one choice.  Silver/mercury filling have advantages (mainly ease of placement) but look ugly (most patients feel)

Advantages of White (composite fillings) Highlands Ranch dentist

• There is some degree of bonding to the tooth structure.  There is some debate on how important this is.

• Composite look better and can be contoured to look like a tooth

• Composite (white dental fillings) are less sensitive if... restored using the "sandwich" technique or incremental build up.  This technique takes longer but the restorations (not fillings) are much more comfortable!

• White fillings (composite) require less tooth removal.  Our Highlands Ranch Dentists... Dr's DeLapp term this "tooth banking" ... saving more tooth  for later need.

• The disadvantage is your dental insurance company "may" downgrade the composite restoration to a less expensive silver filling.  This means more out of pocket expense to the patient!
