Teeth whitening take home trays. Highlands Ranch dentist, Denver Dentistry
Take home whitening trays still remain the gold standard of teeth whitening. This system is proven over decades and works on a vast majority (but not all) patients. The chief complaint of the tray systems is the time and effort needed for the patient to whiten their teeth. Highlands Ranch dentists Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp provide may different types of tooth whitening to their patients. We see dental patients from Parker, Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Ken Caryl, Douglas County and Denver
Alternatives to tray whitening. Highlands Ranch dentist, Denver dentistry
There are several ways to whiten teeth and include but are not limited to:
- Tooth whitening tooth pastes
- Teeth whitening strips
- Over the counter whitening trays
- Mail order tooth whitening trays
- One hour (or so) whitening (Brite Smile, Zoom, Luma… etc)
All have varying degrees of success but the issue is time and concentration of the solutions on the teeth. The lower the concentration of the solution the more time the solution needs to be on the tooth. The greater the concentration of the solution the less time is needed on the tooth.
High concentrations of teeth whitening solutions are very strong and care needs to be taken to protect the gums and cheeks. These high concentrations can… if mis-applied… cause burns on patients. These concentrated solutions are best monitored by the dental office. These concentrated solutions are seen in the one-hour bleaching or whitening programs.
Our Highlands Ranch cosmetic dentists provide Luma one-hour bleaching and it has been effective on many (but not all) cases. Refractory or difficult cases may indeed be best handled with bleaching trays or a combination of techniques. Colors that are gray and brown are particularly difficult to bleach and tray or combo bleaching may be your best choice.
Do not dismiss the efficacy of combined treatments. One hour whitening supplemented with take home trays may give you the best results. Tetracycline staining may or may not whiten significantly and the best results are usually obtained these techniques.
Take home trays takes two dental visits. On visit #1 our Highlands Ranch cosmetic dentist takes moulds of your teeth. From that a vacuum formed plastic stint is made which holds the whitening solution (carbamide peroxide) next to your tooth. The second visit is to deliver and fit these trays and provide the bleaching solutions. Also instructions on its use and post op instructions and tooth sensitivity issues will be reviewed.
Frequently whitening is accomplished in three (3) to six (6) weeks for most patients but as stated earlier it could take months for tetracycline staining.
Our Highlands Ranch cosmetic dentists use various methods to whiten your teeth. We use several techniques to accomplish this. For many patients the one-hour Luma whitening works wonders. For other… it requires combined techniques of one-hour whitening and trays. Please feel free to contact our Highlands Ranch cosmetic dentists to see which teeth whitening techniques is best for you.
