Frequent Dental Cleanings

Denver Dentist Dental CrownTeeth cleaning every three months Dentist Highlands Ranch dentist

If you have some form of periodontal disease or form plaque and calculus easily our Highlands Ranch dentist recommends that we examine and clean your teeth every three (3) months.  Similar to weight gain... or diabetes...gum disease can only be controlled and not "cured".  If it is not closely monitored it can quickly worsen and destroy bone and is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in the adult population.  Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp, Highlands Ranch Dentists, provide periodontal services for their dental patients living and working in Denver Castle Pines, Lone Tree, Parker, Douglas County and Ken Caryl Colorado areas.

Why is three (3) month schedule recommended?

The three (3) month re-care schedule is recommended because of how bacteria colonies develop under your gum line.  It takes approximately 90 days (3 months) for exceedingly destructive bacteria to repopulate your mouth. Aerobic bacteria colonies (needing oxygen) are replaced by anaerobic bacteria colonies (growing with out oxygen).  These types of bacteria are very destructive to your body and destroy the bone that holds your teeth in place.

One of the most significant indicators of how well you are doing is the absence of bleeding upon probing.  For our Highlands Ranch dental patients, this may be seen in the absence of bleeding when brushing and flossing.  Bleeding tells us that the infection is present and we will do our best to eliminate or mitigate it.  Oral rinses such as Peridex or powdered antibiotics such as Arestin may be use in conjunction with 3-month schedule of cleaning. Perfection of home care is also something we wish our patients to master.

Occasionally, we are not able to keep up with a three (3) month schedule and a two (2) month schedule "may" be recommended.  It all depends upon your diet, effective home care, your body's defenses, smoking cessation, and diet to name just a few.

Our Highlands Ranch dental office works closely with our patients to reduce the progression or stop the spread of periodontal disease.  Please feel free to contact our office for and appointment today at(303) 694-9740.
