Indications for sedation dentistry Highlands Ranch Dentistry

Indications for sedation dentistry include but are not limited to:

  • Mild dental anxiety
  • Moderate dental anxiety
  • Severe dental anxiety (most likely hospital anesthesia case)
  • Difficulty getting numb
  • History of difficult dental procedures
  • Difficulty controlling movements (cerebral palsy or Parkinson's disease etc.)
  • Complex dental treatment
  • Fear of needles
  • Fear of the "drill"

Types of sedation dentistry

There are several method used for sedation dentistry including but not limited to:

  • Visualization or talking a patient thru a difficult procedure.
  • Profound local anesthesia (getting profoundly numb goes a long ways)
  • Local anesthesia combined with Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
  • Oral Pre-medication (halcion or similar sedative) and local anesthesia
  • I.V. sedation with nurse anesthetist and local anesthesia
  • General anesthesia in a hospital setting

Patients include but are not limited to:
  • Medical history (ASA)
  • Past poor experiences with anesthesia or sedation
  • Certain Medicines you may be taking
  • Allergy to the sedative drug

Certain Psychological diagnosis are contra-indicated for sedation dentistry
 
Certain psychological diagnosis and situations do not lend themselves to sedation in the dental office.  Please discuss you medical history in full with the doctors
